Abstract

626,156. Hair dryers. LAMBERT, W. J. H., and JONES, J. M. March 17, 1947, No. 7362. [Class 81(ii)] A hair dryer comprises a hood in which there is provided at least one air inlet and. at least one air outlet so arranged that the path of the air is isolated, whereby the air cannot be recirculated, and a blower device contained within the hood, said device comprising two separate blowers, one of which draws air into the dryer and forces it past heater elements to a position in the dryer equivalent to the base of the subject's. hair, the other blower drawing the heated air over and through the hair and discharging said air to atmosphere. As shown in Fig. 2 an electric motor drives fans 5 and 8 mounted upon a common 'shaft 6. Air drawn into the dryer by fan 5 flows over heater elements 3 and through ducts 9 provided between dividing plates 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, and through a passage 13 inside the hood to a position adjacent the base of the subject's hair. The second fan 8 draws this heated air through the hair and forces it to exhaust through outlets 12 between the plates 7 and 7'. In a modification the heater elements may be so positioned that the heated air, during its discharge from the dryer, preheats the cool air being drawn into the dryer. Gauze or mesh members 4, 11, are provided in front of thefans 5 and 8 respectively.
