Abstract

Bauxite, used in the purification of high-boiling hydrocarbons such as lubricating oils in liquid phase is regenerated by oxygen containing flue gases, the water content of the flue gases before use being reduced to 4 per cent by volume or less. The flue gas may be obtained by burning off the deposits on the bauxite, the gas so obtained being then cooled to separate water, mixed with air and returned to the bauxite. The process may be effected under pressure.
