625,716. Seats and mountings therefor. MONROE AUTO EQUIPMENT CO. May 28, 1947, No. 14214. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1944. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle seat is mounted on the frame 29 by means of a resilient buffer (see Group XXXII) comprising a coil spring 13 and a hydraulic shock absorber 14 the buffer being situated at the rear of the seat, means also being provided for slidably mounting the seat proper in its support and for vertically adjusting the seat support. Fixed to the vehicle frame 29 are a pair of plates 27 connected by cross shafts 34, 36 to which are pivoted arms 32, 33 the other ends of the arms being pivoted to the movable support for the seat. The seat support also comprises two parallel plates 30 the front edges of which are inclined and are parallel to similarly inclined rear edges of the plates 27. The seat support is rigidly connected at the rear to a U-shaped member 42 arranged on the resilient buffer, the member 42, and therefore the seat, being vertically adjustable by means of the screwed tubular member 39 and nut 41 carried by the member 42. Secured to the base 15 of the seat 10 are channelled guides 18 whereby the seat is slidably adjustable on rollers 19 carried by the seat support. A spring-pressed plunger 21 carried by the seat is adapted to enter a selected aperture 22 on the seat support to lock the seat in horizontally adjusted position, a lever 25 being provided to retract the plunger 21 when it is desired to readjust the seat. Stops 20 are provided for limiting the horizontal adjustability of the seat. In a modification the vertical adjustment of the seat may be obtained by means of a screwed rod secured to the plates 30 and passing through a nut rotatably mounted on an abutment at the top of the resilient buffer. In a further modification the U-shaped member 42 may be provided with rack-like teeth engageable by dogs carried on an axially-movable rod.
