Abstract
625,645. Fluid - pressure servomotor - control systems. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., SPENCER, A., and SPAINK, J. H. ABBINK-. March 19, 1940, No. 5127. [Class 135] Relates to power transmission systems of the follow-up or repeater type and of the kind in which the movement of an object, such as a gun 11, is dependent on the relative displacement of two members 2, 5, of which one is associated with the follow-up apparatus forming part of the power drive controlled by the signal. According to the invention the system, which includes a follow-up motor 3 and a valve-controlled hydraulic power amplifier 9, whose valve 12 is operated by an input shaft 14 through a differential gear 13, is provided with an additional differential gear 7 arranged between the motor and the input shaft. This gear 7 has its planet wheel driven from the valve operating shaft 15 and its function is to correct for the lag which arises not only between the input and output shafts 14, 10, of the amplifier but also between the rotors 2, 5, of the transmitting and receiving units 1, 6, associated with the motor 3. In the construction shown, the drive between the shaft 15 and differential 7 is through a small hydraulic amplifier 17. The amplifier 9 is of the construction described in Specification 625,244, and the system employing the units 1, 6 is as in Specification 606,877, [Group XXXVIII], or, alternatively the system incorporating photo-electric means as in Specification 606,876, [Group XXXVIII], may be used.
