Abstract
An aluminium base alloy having good tensile strength, good deep drawing qualities and good corrosion resistance, has the following composition: Mg 2.50-7.50 per cent, Fe 0.61-1.75 per cent, Si 0.02-0.60 per cent, Sn 0.00-1.00 per cent, Sb 0.00-1.00 per cent, Al the remainder but so that he total of the Sn and Sb contents always exceeds 0.03 per cent. One or more of Ti, Nb, B, Ce may be present up to a total of 0.75 per cent. One or more of Be, Cr, Pb, Mn, Zr, Zn may be present up to a total of 1.20 per cent and individually not exceeding 0.80 per cent, the total of the Sn and Pb contents always being below 1.10 per cent. One or more of Cu, Bi, Ca, Co, Li, Mo, Ni, Ag, Th, Ta, Te, Tl, W, V, Yt, La, Ga may be present up to a total of 0.75 per cent and individually not exceeding 0.40 per cent unless Si is present in amounts of 0.4 per cent and over, in which case the Cu content will be below 0.10 per cent. The total content of Tl, Pb and Sn will be below 1.10 per cent. One or more of Na, K, Ba, Sr, As, P may be present up to a total of 0.25 per cent; carbon may be present as an impurity. The alloy may be aged at a temperature not exceeding 250 DEG C. or annealed at a temperature not exceeding 450 DEG C.
