Abstract

<PICT:0624409/III/1> Quasi-optical electromagnetic waves of a length between 0.00022 and 10 metres are radiated on to a body 18a to be treated from an antenna 16 and are reflected by a reflector 20 on to the body; and a second separate reflector 22a is located on the other side of the body to reflect back thereon waves passing through the body from the first reflector 20, the antenna 16 and the second reflector 22a being connected to earth so that the second reflector constitutes an electrode in the circuit of the antenna. Wood, rubber, plastics, resins, glue, glass or animal tissue may be thus treated, e.g. heated, dried, vulcanized, cured, chemically activated, fused, polymerized, moulded, bonded or plasticized, or the apparatus is used for therapeutic treatment. Both reflectors are polished and may be concave, the second reflector 22a reflecting the waves back on to a thicker section of the body. The antenna 16 comprises a single-ended wire connected in a known H.F. generating circuit 15 and is connected to earth at 17, e.g. through an inductance. The parabolic reflector 20 is not connected to the H.F. generator or related to the tuning thereof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an antenna 16 of balltype or a dipole, e.g. a tube with a wire extending coaxially therein, or a multiple dipole, or one that produces a symmetrical or asymmetrical conical, cylindrical, flat or other shaped beam. The antenna may be of wave-guide type, e.g. a coaxial cable with a wire passing through an opening in the base of a tubular wave-guide, or the guide may be horn-shaped. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
