Abstract

624,227. Making pipe bends and sanitary fittings. CHIFFEY, E. June 17, 1947, No. 15933. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending; stamping.-A pipe bend of small radius in proportion to the bore, such as a domestic waste trap, is made by producing a pipe of ovoid section as in Fig. 2, bending by a former &c. with the minor axis in the plane of the bend and finally expanding to circular section by hydraulic pressure in a two-part die. The pipe may be produced with ovoid section or a circular section pipe may be flattened, the section preferably having flat sides a, band rounded ends c, and the major axis being equal to or less than the final diameter required. The bent pipe C, Fig. 1, has the ends plugged and is expanded in the die to the final shape A. The Provisional Specification states that the pipe may be heat-treated during or after 'the bending operation.
