Abstract
624,041. Automatic circuit-breakers; airblast switches; snap - actiun switches. FORGES ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. March 31, 1947, No. 8650. Convention date, April 19, 1946. [Class 38(v)] A circuit-breaker, with two breaks in series per pole, closed by an electric motor against an opening spring, and held closed by an electro-magnet acting on a lever system, comprises two fixed contacts 1, and associated magnetic blow-out coils 20 mounted side by side in separate arc-chutes and co-operating with a pair of contacts 2 carried by an arm 4 pivoted at 5 to an arm 6 pivoted at 7. A compression spring 16 pivoted at 17 to the other end of the contact arm 4 provides the contact-pressure and opening force. The circuit-breaker is held closed by an energized electromagnet 15 having its armature 13 pivoted at 14 and connected by a link 12 to the pivot 5. When the electromagnet 15 is de-energized, the spring 16 first causes the contact arm 4 to rock about the pivot 5, Fig. 2, (not shown), after which the arms 4, 6 are forced down together to open the contacts and compress the bellows 9 which send a blast of air through the nozzles 11 across the break, Fig. 3. To close the circuitbreaker, motor 19' driving a crank 19 with lost motion through suitable gearing, raises a link 18 engaging the pivot 17 in a slot in its lower end, to first rock the arm 4 further about its pivot 5, until it engages a stop 29 on the arm 6 after which the arms 4, 6 are raised together, pulling the bellows 9 with them by means of hook 8. When the crank 19 reaches "top-deadcentre," the motor-armature is short-circuited by auxiliary contacts and the arm 6 is held up by the electromagnet 15 and associated linkage. The lost motion A between the crank and motor, Fig. 5, allows the spring 16 to rotate the contact arm 4 about its pivot 5 and rapidly close the contacts. The circuit-breaker chassis is supported on insulators inside an earthed casing, Fig. 6, (not shown).
