623,490. Fluid pressure-operated brakes. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., CADMAN, N. G., and PETER, L. H. May 2, 1947, No. 11892. Addition to 575,858. [Class 103 (i)] Unloading of the compressor in the brake system described in the parent Specification, when the pressure in the reservoir has reached the predetermined value is effected either by means arranged to connect the intake and delivery passages of the compressor or to cut off the power by which the compressor is driven. As shown, the intake and delivery passages of the compressor 1 are connected by pipes 4, 3, respectively, to the control chamber 5 and reservoir 2. When the pressure in the reservoir falls below a predetermined value, a fluid pressure-operated switch 22 connected to the reservoir closes the circuit of the motor 19 which drives the compressor. An outlet pipe 24 connects the switch to the chamber 5. The switch device 22 may instead control the current supply to an electromagneticallyoperated clutch by which the motor 19 is coupled to the compressor, or a valve device operated by the pressure in the reservoir may effect a direct connection between the intake and delivery passages of the compressor so that there is then an idle circulation of air.
