Abstract
623,414. Furniture frames. PULLMAN (PATENT) PRODUCTS, Ltd., and GRIFFITH, G. Sept. 9, 1946, No. 27067. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A frame member for furniture &c. comprises two layers of metallic strip united to form a web and extended beyond the web into a shape adapted to hold a tacking strip. As shown the.frame member is of I section and comprises two sheet metal strips the edges of which are flanged so that when the web portions D, E are welded or otherwise secured together the edges are of incomplete box section with the flanges A leaving a gap between them through which tacks, nails &c. for securing the furniture &c. fabric pass into a filling B of soft material which is compressed in the box section. Additional material H may be positioned between the edge flanges as shown and if desired one or more wires may be embedded in the material B either for reinforcing purposes or for tying one member to an adjacent member. Where it is desired to use long nails &c. which pass right through the material B the webs D, E may be formed so as to provide channels transverse to the edge channels. The channels for the material B may be formed by angle pieces secured to a metal strip.
