Abstract

623,047. Vehicle bodies. OLAVE, J. P. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 27978. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a motor vehicle the front end of chassis frame is formed by a channel-sectioned crossmember having a substantially straight intermediate portion and rearwardly and laterally extending ends, the member serving as a front axle of the vehicle and forming an exterior surface of the vehicle. The channel-sectioned cross-member A, Fig. 2, showing the centre portion 20 and one end portion 21, is connected to a channel-sectioned longitudinal member B at each side by means of members 1, 2. The members B are connected to each other at the rear at 4 by riveting and welding to form part of the exterior surface of the vehicle. Two transverse strengthening members C, D, Fig. 3, are provided between which is mounted the bottom portion of the seat, the springs of which are connected to the member C, whilst the back portion of the seat is provided by a plate E welded to a rectangular member 16 of L-section. The engine (not shown) may be housed behind the plate E. Rectangular frames 10, 11 with a vertical channel-member 9 support a U-shaped member 12 to which is secured the fuel tank F which consists of a top curved member 13 forming an exterior surface of the vehicle and a bottom plate 14. In the corners of the chassis frame are truncated conical pockets G with their tops blanked and bottoms open into which rolled-up magazines or the like may be wedged to serve as props. The vehicle is single-seated and conforms generally to minimum sizes for carrying one person, and is sufficiently light in construction to be man-handled. The wheels are so arranged that the tyres act as buffers.
