Abstract

622,954. Perforating punches. LOTUS, Ltd., BOSTOCK, G. S., and SHARPLES, T. G. Nov. 26, 1946, No. 34994. [Class 31 (ii)] In a die of the type used for cutting out presses to ornament shoe uppers by perforated patterns and comprising a base-plate 5 to which is secured a backing plate 9 and punch-carrying plate 11, all three having aligned perforations for passage of the waste material, and a resiliently mounted pressure plate 6 having an aperture corresponding to the shape of the plates 9 and 11 and having a cover-plate 13 with perforations 13b through which the punches may pass and work guiding and holding members 13a and 14, the backing plate 9 is made detachable from the base-plate 5 and is provided with locating means, whereby interchangeable backing plates may be used. In the example shown, the locating means comprise dowel pegs 5b which project up from the base-plate 5 and which locate the backing plate 9 and also the punch-carrying plate 11, the two latter being detachably secured to the base-plate by screws 10. The holes 9d in the backing plate 9 and those in the base-plate 5 which register with the punches for passage of waste are preferably of the same diameter as the internal diameter of the wider end of the punches to be used therewith. The punchcarrying plate 11 may be made in two parts, a main part 11a and an outer part 11b which is also used when patterns of a larger size are to be punched, the two parts being separated by a stepped joint. A transparent index finger may be attached to the centre of the locating plate 13a so as to project over the work, whereby the work-piece may be more accurately positioned.
