Abstract

622,405. Gear-cutting. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and MITCHELL, W. March 19, 1947, No. 7606. [Class 83 (iii)] To produce modifications of the helical angle in helical gear-wheels, a gear cutting machine of the hobbing type is provided with means for traversing the hob at a variable speed without changing the speed of rotation of the lead screws, of the hob, or of the wheel being cut. In the form shown, axial movement is given to the lead screw 4 by means of a screwed sleeve 6 integral with an arm 11 pivoted to a connecting rod 12 connected to the main driving mechanism of the machine, the sleeve 6 being supported axially by a screwed member 13 fixed to the cross-slide 3 supporting the hob saddle.
