Abstract

N-Substituted aryl g -amino-b -hydroxyalkyl ethers are prepared by reacting an aryl b : g -oxidoalkyl ether with a primary or secondary amine at or below room temperature and at atmospheric pressure. The amines used may be substituted with saturated or unsaturated groups. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a diluent, preferably a lower alcohol, ether, or hydrocarbon. In the twenty examples given, the following b : g -oxidopropyl ethers are reacted with one or more of the amines listed, i.e., phenyl, o-tolyl, a -naphthyl, p-chlorophenyl, o -chlorophenyl, p - tert. - butylphenyl, p - tert. - amylphenyl, and o-methyl-p-tert.-amylphenyl ethers, and ethyl, diethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, di-n-butyl, isoamyl, allyl and benzyl amines, ethylenediamine and piperazine.
