Abstract
A liquid binder, such as glue, is applied to wood shavings or chips, the binder being formed into a thin film having a comparatively large area by passing the binder successively over cylinders arranged in contact with one another so that the binder is transferred from one roller to another to form on the final cylinder a film of reduced thickness. The shavings or chips are conveyed in contact with this film so as to <PICT:0621786/III/1> <PICT:0621786/III/2> coat the individual shavings or chips in a uniform manner. The thickness of the film may be progressively reduced in passing from one cylinder to the next. Fig. 1 shows one form of apparatus. The liquid binder 2 is taken up by the roller 3, the excess being kept back by the scraper 4. A film of binder is passed to roller 5 which is adjustable by the spring 7, and then to the final roller 6. Chips or shavings are passed down between two such final rollers and then disaggregated by the toothed rollers 9. The process is repeated by passing these coated shavings or chips through a similar set of rollers. In another form of apparatus, shown in Fig. 2, the shavings or chips are caused to be thrown against the binder film by means of the rotating fluted cylinders 10 and 11 which have a greater peripheral speed than the cylinder 6.ALSO:Wood shavings or chips are coated with a liquid binding substance such as glue in a uniform manner by passing the binder over successive rollers so as to form on the final roller a film of reduced thickness and comparatively large area and then conveying the chips or shavings into contact with the film. The coated chips or shavings are disintegrated and placed in frames or moulds and there pressed.
