Abstract
621,750. Ships' hatches. JEFFREY, A. W. June 27, 1946, No. 19238. [Class 113 (i)] A carrier for the end of a hatch bearer 10 comprises a trolley movable as an independent unit on a runway extending along the inner side of the hatch coaming, the trolley having a seat 29 to receive the bearer end in a readily removable manner and locking means 31 to co-operate with complemental locking means on a rail 20 secured to the coaming. Each trolley comprises rollers 22 journalled in a carriage 23 formed with the seat 29 into which the bearer 10 fits and is secured by a screw 30 on which a latch 31 is mounted. The horizontal flange of the rail 20 has slots cut therein corresponding with the working positions of the hatch bearers. When the latch is raised to the dotted position in Fig. 3, the trolley can be moved along the runway 12 from one locking position to another, the latch being supported in its disengaged position by the locking rail 20. When the trolley reaches a working position the latch automatically drops into the slot provided there. Specification 440,099 is referred to.
