[Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A storage receptacle for liquid carbon dioxide under pressure is also charged with compressed gas other than carbon dioxide and which exerts a pressure of at least 200 pounds per square inch at - 60‹ F., the gas being present in such proportion that the mixture is confined at a pressure of at least 300 pounds per square inch at - 60‹ F., and is thus dischargeable at a relatively high rate at - 65 ‹ F. without clogging the discharge passages and is also safely confineable without building up excessive pressures at temperatures up to 140‹ F. Nitrogen; air or other permanent gas is first introduced into an empty container 10 to a pressure of between 200 and 500 pounds per square, inch at 70‹ F. and then a predetermined weight of solid or liquid carbon dioxide, usually 68 per cent of, the capacity of the container. On cooling to - 60‹ F. the pressure within the container of about 300 pounds per square inch is sufficient to effect, discharge of liquid carbon dioxide through a, syphon tube 18 and past a valve 24 to an outlet 20. A safety valve: 32 is adapted to be ruptured at a predetermined container pressure.
