Abstract

620,808. Hand drills. LAYTON, D. A. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2412. [Class 83 (iii)] In a hand drill of the type in which the drilling bit is held in a chuck 12 secured to a spindle 15 having a pinion 14 rotated by a crown wheel 8, the main shaft 1 of the drill is provided at one end with a boss having a number of radial apertures 5 to selectively receive the spindle 15 so that the latter can be angularly adjusted about the axis of rotation of the crown-wheel. A spring-loaded ball catch 17 holds the spindle in position. The handle 19 is connected by a lug and screw 21 with an extension of the main shaft so that it is angularly adjustable with respect to the latter. The facing surfaces of the extension and lug are formed with serrations which co-operate to retain the handle in the required position when the screw is tightened.
