Abstract

620,701. Load-handling pallets. CAHNERS, N. L. July 15, 1946, Nos. 21092, 21093 and 21094. Convention dates, July 14, 1945, March 11, 1946 and April 12, 1946. [Class 78 (iv)] A load-handling pallet comprises a platform supported by a plurality of tubular members constructed from non-metallic lightweight material such as fibre-board, paper or the like, said members each extending both laterally and longitudinally of said platform a distance at least as great as its height, and forming open spaces between them, or within themselves, of greater width than height adequate for the reception of the load-handling forks of a lifting truck. A platforrr 10, Fig. 1, is supported on openended tubes 14 which may be reinforced by caps glued to their base! and may each have one or twc rectangular strips fixed internally across their diameters. In an embodiment, Fig. 18, the platform is supported on open ended rectangular tubes 61 which may be folded for transit as shown in Fig. 19, and when in use they are reinforced either by diagonally braced rectangular tubes which slide into the tubes 61, or end caps glued to the tube ends. The tubes, reinforcement and platform may be produced from one sheet of fibre-board folded and stapled, one form of this type of pallet being shown in Fig. 20. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 24 the tubular members 94 are themselves constructed to receive the lifting forks. The support members may be arranged in a number of ways to give adequate strength, and suitable access to the lift truck forks, and when the pallets are to be used in a damp atmosphere they may be impregnated with a waterproof varnish.
