Abstract

620,650. Mitre gauges. LAYTON, D. A. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2414. [Class 145(i)] Refers to a variable portable mitre gauge of the type having an angle-section base 1, 2, adapted to bear against the top surface and one edge of the material to be cut, and a saw-guide 7 on one end of that portion of the base which bears on the top surface of the material so as to be pivotable about an axis 6 substantially perpendicular to said surface, the saw-guide having a turntable 8 at right angles to the guide proper and formed with an arcuate slot 10 in which is engaged a locking member 12 attached to the base of the gauge; the base of the gauge is formed or provided with at least one inwardly directed sharp-pointed projection 4a which can be pressed into the material to be cut when the flange is positioned thereon to prevent slip during the sawing operation. The gauge is made preferably of metal, one edge 5 being inclined at an obtuse angle e.g. 135 degrees to the side 3, whilst the saw-guide 7 comprises a strip of metal bent double and widened at the lower end.
