[Class 94(i)] In a wool press comprising boxes 1 and 2 and a presser head 3 provided with lugs 4 projecting through slots extending along the height of the box 2, the presser head 3 is forced downwardly in the box 2 to compress wool filling the two boxes into the box 1 by mechanism consisting of a power shaft 14, a winding drum 16 at each of its ends, a cable 23 wound on each drum and passing over guide pulleys 24 to form purchase means to be attached to the presser head lugs 4, so that by the rotation of the 'drums 16 the presser head 3 is caused to descend, the said shaft 14 being rotated by means of an electric motor 18 and gearing 19. Each purchase means is connected to the head 3 by a pulley 22 attached to the rod 20 having an eye 21 whereby it is detachably suspended from a lug 4. The cable 23 from the drum'16 may pass under the guide pulley 24 and over the pulley 22 and have its end attached to the base at 25, Fig. 5; or over and around the guide pulley 24, upwards and over the pulley 22, downwards, around another pulley 27, and then upwards to be hooked at 25, Figs. 6 and 7. A cap or cover 7 is initially placed beneath the presser head. To secure the cover 7, the presser head 3 has a number of slots, and in line with these slots similar notches or slots 31 are formed on the upper edge of the box 1. 'At the lowest position of the presser head the respective slots register and leave spaces whereby hooks are inserted into the bale cover 7 thus retaining it in position until it is sewn to the bale..To move the box 2 away from the box 1 so as to place the wool within the bale, and to remove the filled bale, the two boxes have hinge parts pivoted together and secured on opposite sides, while quadrants 9 are attached to the upper hinge leaves and are rotatable by cogs 10 on a spindle 11 operated by handle levers 12.
