Abstract

620,194. Drying rayon packages. ALGEMEENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N. V. Jan. 7, 1947, No. 569. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1946. [Class 34(ii)] Packages of thread with hollow centres 13 are dried in a chamber 10 at subatmospheric pressure; the packages are mounted on supporting tubes 14, positioned over heated pipes 11, the supporting tubes 14 being rotated periodically so that all portions of the outside of the package are subjected to substantially the same degree of radiation heat from the walls of the chamber. Rotation of the packages is obtained preferably for the outer ring oniy by glazing all the cuter ring of supporting tubes together and driving them from a spur gear 18 which is driven by a pair of bevel gears 17, 23, driven from a shaft 25 which enters the chamber through a stuffing-box 26.
