Abstract

620,123. Testing gears. MULLER, K. May 23, 1945, No. 12937. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 29, 1945.] [Class 106 (ii)] In an apparatus for testing gears, cylindrical measuring members, having the same gear ratio as the test specimens, are connected with the axles of the test specimens and are rotated in opposite directions by a band-like transmission means which also passes round two sheaves in such a manner that one of the test specimens is transversely displaceable. The gears 5 and 10, one of which may be a master, are mounted with measuring cylinders 4 and 9 on axles carried by an adjustable slide 2 and a slide 7, mounted upon ball-bearings for transverse movement, respectively. A steel band 16 passes round the measuring cylinders and round two sheaves 14 which are adjustably mounted on a holder carried by an adjustable slide 11. The sections of the band between the gear 10 and the sheaves 14 are preferably parallel. A motor 27 drives the axle carrying the measuring cylinder 4 and gear 5, by means of worm and bevel gears, and a recording drum 26 by means of an adjustable friction drive 30, 31. A pin 18 secured to the slide 7 operates a scriber lever 20 by means of spring-loaded multiplying levers, and in this manner, on rotation of the gears, the transverse movements of the gear 10, due to erroneous tooth configurations, are recorded on the drum 26. The slide may be urged in either direction by adjusting a fork 24 which brings spring pressure to bear on a projection 22 of the slide.
