Abstract
620,093. Placing packing-rings on stoppers. RICHARDS, S. I., and WILLSON, C. R. Jan. 3, 1947, No. 306. [Class 125(iii)] In a machine for applying resilient rings to stopper shanks, a continuously rotated body or table carries a ring-applying finger assembly successively into operative relation with a ring-supplying device, a stopper-supplying device, and an endwise abutment to resist endwise displacement of stoppers whilst rings are applied thereto, and the stoppers are ejected automatically after rings have been applied to them. As shown a finger assembly is carried round on a rotary table 19 until a pillar 25 removes a rubber ring R from the bottom of a chute 41, the ring dropping into position around the tips of fingers 26 (position (a), Fig. 3). During further movement of the assembly, stationary cam tracks 32, 30 cause pillar 25 to be lowered while fingers 20 are spread to expand ring R to receive a stopper S (position (b)). The stopper may drop from the bottom of a stack through a hole in the upper portion of table 19 or, as shown, may be released from a chute 50 by pawls 52 operated by a lever 55 engaging a cam 58 which rotates with table 19. The assembly now passes to position (c) when upward movement of sleeve 26 operated by cam 30 causes horns 29, carried by sleeve 26, to contact ring R and force it off fingers 20 home onto the stopper while the latter is pressed against a spring-loaded abutment 40. The assembly then passes to position (d) where upward movement of pillar 25 ejects the stopper complete with ring, the stopper falling inside table 19 into a collecting box or delivery chute.
