Abstract

825,223. Feeding nuts to a powered tool. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 4, 1957 [July 5, 1956], No. 20919/56. Class 78 (1). Nuts are fed from hopper 3 to recess 21 for use by pneumatic nut-screwing tool 1, the nuts being agitated by device 8 and falling down upper shoot 5 in edge-foremost position into lower shoot 6 (which bears a telescopic relationship to shoot 5) where they are released singly by escapement lever 28 as needed by the tool. The tool, having driving- bit 13<SP>1</SP>, is pressed down on to a nut in position by the operative, and this downward movement of the tool effects four things sequentially: one, it engages (by means of a cup 10) the roller 25 of lever 22 to displace end 26 thereof to free the path for the bit 13<SP>1</SP>, two, it engages roller 34 of lever 28 to allow the column of nuts in shoot 6 to fall till held by tip 32 of said lever 28; three, it engages rollers 19 of levers 16 to withdraw ends 20 thereof from beneath the positioned nut; four, bit 13<SP>1</SP>, having already engaged the nut, drives it home. When downward pressure on the tool is released, the subsequent movement of lever 28 releases the next nut to fall and be positioned by the said ends of the levers 22 and 16 which return to their original positions, ready for the next cycle of operations.
