Abstract
Apparatus for hardening fatty material comprises a container 1 within which is situated a vertical circulation tube 4, the upper end of which projects into a reaction space above the level of the fat, and through which the fat and catalyst flow upwardly by introducing hydrogen at or towards the bottom of the tube, and wherein heating means 2, 3 is provided within the upper part of the tube 4 so that the fat, catalyst and hydrogen is heated immediately before it enters the reaction space 9. Hydrogen is led from a compressor 11 through a tube 12 to a jacket 5 which communicates with the inside of the tube 4 through helix 6. The shape of the lower part of the container 1 is such <PICT:0620043/III/1> that the metal catalyst does not settle out of the mixture. Above the tube 4 a conveyer scoop 8 is placed and serves to divide finely the upwardly rushing mixture before it enters the reaction space.
