Abstract
619,934. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Dec. 31, 1946, No. 38082. [Class 111] A settling tank has an outlet weir at top water level comprising a number of separate short weirs equally spaced in the tank wall, each provided with an adjustable weir plate. As shown in Fig. 2, the short weirs are constructed by passing rectangular-section iron pipes j through the wall a at about top water level and below the top of the coping c, each pipe having an adjustable weir plate g, which may be of brass, having slots m, Fig. 3, by which it may be secured to flanges k on the outlet end of the pipe j. Alternatively the weirs may be formed by open cast-iron channels at the bottom of slots, which extend to below top water level, formed in the wall a. Similar adjustable weir plates are provided. The invention may be applied to rectangular tanks having a weir across one end. According to the Provisional Specification the weir plate may be pivotally mounted across the bottom of the pipe near the outlet end, the pivot pin having a handle at one end for raising or lowering the plate.
