Abstract

619,656. Vehicle bodies. BRITISH LIGHT STEEL PRESSINGS, Ltd., and WHITE, E. S. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37383. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i)] In an automobile of the kind having sides built from metal pressings or stampings which include the rear wheel arch housings, the forward parts of which extend forwardly of the rear vertical line of the rear door opening, the body side sills are continued along the outside of the outer walls of the wheel housings so that there is formed above them a recess for receiving the lower parts of the rear door and windows thereof when in the lowered position, the construction thus permitting the windows to be lowered to their full extent. In the form described, the wheel arch housings 2 have outer walls 14 to the lower edges 8 of which are secured the side sills 13, the top faces of which provide a seating for the lower part of the rear door 11 with the sliding window 7 contained therein. Preferably, the door pillars incline inwardly from their lower ends towards the cant rails, so as to provide for the mounting of the doors and sliding movement of the windows in correspondingly inclined planes.
