Abstract
618,698. Lasts for footwear. INGRAM, A. Nov. 5, 1946, No. 32833. [Classes 17 (i) and 17 (ii)] With a view to retaining the proper relation of the - bones of the foot and leg, especially in high-heeled footwear, a last is employed wherein the length G from the first metatarso-phalangeal joint S to the back of the heel of the shoe at HJ is measured with the foot supported on a horizontal surface which passes under the region of the joints in a fully arched condition and with the heel at a height K for which the foot wear is designed. A plane A-B, Fig. 2, through the back of the heel and the centre of the line 3-3 of the metatarso-phalangeal joints and containing the centre line of the usual upper rear surface of the last is vertical, so that the heel is not tilted either inwardly or outwardly. The upper at the vamp 17 is slightly convex and the sole is convex in cross-section at the ball under the joints and mainly concave transversley at 15, when viewed from inside the shoe, the concavity being, greatest on the outer side and decreasing towards the inner side of the shoe. The heel platform 19 lies in a plane Q-R which passes through the first metatarso-phalangeal joint S, and the net effect of the shoe on the foot is to support it against longitudinal movement in the region of the metatarsophalangeal joints and at the heel and brace it in a position such that the os-calcis lies at substantially the same angle to the ground surface as if the foot were resting flat on the ground. The last may be constructed -as described in Specification 618,943.
