Abstract

618,516. Purifying trade waste effluents. WEDGWOOD, P., and BATTERSBY. T. C. April 25, 1946, No. 12447. [Classes 46 and III] A process for removing emulsified oil from aqueous trade waste effluents comprises passing the liquor upwardly through a vessel containing a blanket of alkaline precipitated medium consisting of calcium carbonate and calcium hydrate, the medium being preferably the sludge produced in water-softening plants. As shown a conical vessel A is provided with a sludge. blanket X through which passes the trade waste effluent from an inlet pipe B. The oil is absorbed by the sludge blanket and the treated liquor passes through a pipe D to a filter tank E containing fine coke breeze, ashes or similar material. The purified liquor passes to the sewer pipe L through an outlet K.
