617,669. Batteries. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JOHNSON, A. W. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30559. [Class 53] Each cell of a battery of the layer type consists of an insulating annular member 3 having an inwardly extending rim 4 to support the elementsof the cell, and a flange 6 to enable one cell to be nested within another. The flange is stepped-in from the wall of the member 3 and may be tapered as shown. A zinc plate 7 coated on one side with graphite 8 rests on the rim 4 and above the zinc plate is a paper or other absorbent layer 9 coated with cereal and containing the electrolyte. A layer 10 of carbon and manganese dioxide rests on the layer 9 and makes contact with the graphite layer on the zinc of the adjacent cell. The stack of cells is held together by a binding 2 and the terminals are formed by zinc plates at the ends of the stack. Specification 549,036 is referred to.
