Abstract

617,451. Photographic diazotype processes. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Oct. 1, 1946, No. 29263. Convention date, Jan. 4, 1945. [Class 98 (ii)] The stability of a light sensitive layer containing a diazo compound and an azo dye coupling component therefor is increased by adding a sulphonated ortho-hydroxy-carboxylic acid of the benzene or naphthalene series to the coating solution used to form the layer. Premature coupling is thereby avoided. Specified stabilising compounds are 5-sulpho-salicylic acid, 5-sulpho-o-cresotic acid, and 6- and 8- sulpho - 2 - hydroxy - 3 - naphthalene - carboxylic acids. Examples 1, 2 and 3 describe coating solutions which include p-diazodiphenylamine sulphate and acetoacetamide and as stabilisers 5-sulphosalicylic acid, 5-sulpho-ocresolic acid, and 8-sulpho-2-hydroxy-3-napthalenecarboxylic acid respectively. Examples 4 and 5 describe coating solutions including the zinc chloride double salt of diazotized N : N- dimethyl - p - phenylenediamine, 2,3 - dihydroxy-naphthalene and sodium naphthalene 1,3,6-trisulphonate and respectively 5-sulphosalicylic acid and 5-sulpho-o-cresolic acid. Examples 6 specifies a coating solution including the zinc chloride double salt of diazotized N, N-diethyl-p-phenylene-diamine, 1- phenyl-3-methyl-pyrazolone and 5-sulpho-ocresolic acid, and examples 7 and 8 coating solutions including 2,1-diazo-hydroxy-naphthalene-5-sulphonic acid, nickel sulphate and phloroglucinol and respectively 5-sulpho-ocresolic acid and 6-sulpho-2-hydroxy-3-napthlenecarboxylic acid.
