Abstract
617,442. Lifting-jacks. LAKE R, ELLIOT, Ltd., and BROOKES, W. Oct. 1, 1946, No. 29207. [Class 78 (iii)] In pawl-and-ratchet jacks the handle socket is made in two parts, each of which has a recess for the pawl pin extending from each side of the pawl and a recess for one of a pair of trunnions fixed to the frame on which the socket is adapted to be rocked. The handle 6 fits into recesses 5 of the socket members 2 and 3 which are secured together by bolts 7, each part having a recess 20 for a pin 19 extending from each side of the pawl 16, and each arm 12 having a recess 13 for a trunnion 14 secured to frame members 15. The handle can be rocked on the trunnions to operate the pawl 16 which engages a ratchet-wheel 18. The pawl pin 19 acts as a dowel for positioning the two parts 2 and 3. Additional dowels may be provided in opposed recesses. In a modification, the members 2 and 3 may be secured by bolts at each side of the handle 6 so that the latter can be rotatably mounted in the socket, flanges or sleeves being provided on the handle to prevent longitudinal or axial movement.
