Abstract

617,394. Electrically operated fastenings. BRADFORD, H. Sept. 30, 1946. No. 29107. [Class 44] An electrically-operated lock has a bolt 3, rigs. 1 and 3, which is withdrawn by an electric motor 13 by means of an arm 8 mounted on the motor spindle 14, and a release bar 16 which is normally urged outwardly by a spring 22 and in this position engages the arm 8 and prevents movement of the bolt, but which when pushed back against the action of the spring releases the arm 8, which is then turned by a spring so as to move the bolt into locking position. The locking mechanism, contained in a casing 1, comprises a bolt 3 sliding on a pin 6 and provided with an opening 7 within which rotates the arm 8. Around the spindle 14 of the motor is a coil-spring 15, one end of which is secured to the spindle and the other to the frame of the motor, and which is arranged to be tensioned as the motor rotates'to retract the bolt. so that on the breaking of the motor circuit the bolt is projected. The release bar 16 is guided on pins 6 and 18, and has a projection 21 which can engage the arm 8, and is biased to projected position by a spring 22. The motor circuit is completed through contacts 27, 28 when the release bar is in retracted position. The striking plate 30, Fig. 5, has an opening 32 to receive the bolt, and a ramp 33 which forces the release bar inwardly as the door is closed. In the locked position of Fig. 1, closing of the motor circuit, which may be effected by means of an ordinary switch, or a time or code switch, rotates the arm 8 to withdraw the bolt and tension the spring 15. The door can then be opened. On this, the release bar is projected by the spring 22, and projection 21 engages arm 8, preventing projection of the bolt by spring 15, and the motor circuit is broken. If the door is now shut (a) with the main switch still closed, the motor is energised through contacts 27, 28 and arm 8 is still held in position to withdraw the bolt, or (b) with the main switch open, the bar 16 being pushed inwardly releases arm 8 which is then turned by spring 15 so as to shoot the bolt.
