Abstract

Coarse grained common salt is made by evaporating a brine containing a few parts per million of either a quaternary ammonium salt, one radicle of which comprises an alkyl group of 8-20 carbon atoms, e.g. cetyl pyridinium bromide, cetyl trimethylammonium bromide, oleyl diethylaminoethylamine acetate, stearamidoethyl-trimethyl-ammonium methyl sulphate, or a polyethenoxy compound, the molecule of which contains an alkyl group of 8-20 carbon atoms and not less than 10 ethenoxy groups per such alkyl group, e.g. the substances made by combining dodecyl alcohol with 10 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, or cetyl alcohol with 17, 29, 50 or 100 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, as described in Specification 380,431.
