Abstract
616,997. Toy aircraft. DAY, J. A. J. Sept. 30, 1946, No. 29103. [Class 4] A toy aircraft is propelled by an air turbine supplied by a hand, foot or motor-operated bellows. Fig. 3 shows a model aeroplane in which the turbine 1 is directly coupled to the propeller shaft 4 and is connected to the bellows 9 by a pipe 7 fitted with a non-return valve 9*. A quick-release joint 8 may be provided to enable the pipe 7 to be uncoupled when the model reaches a sufficient height, or when the propeller speed is sufficiently high. In the model helicopter shown in Fig. 4, the turbine 1 is connected to a reservoir 13 in the fuselage, the reservoir being charged by the bellows 9. The air passes to the turbine through a slow release valve 14. The reservoir may be made of elastic material, while the drive between the propeller and turbine, instead of being direct, may be through gearing, belt and pulleys, or the like.
