Abstract
616,905. Induction heating. BUDD CO. Sept. 19, 1946. No. 28117. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1945. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A workpiece 6 is internally heat treated by an induction coil 100 secured to an arbor 24, which is mounted on a frame 19 sliding on members 15 and 16. Arbor 24 is rotated by a motor 26 and belt 27, and reciprocated by fluid operated motors 33 and 34. The arbor is constituted by tubular coaxial pairs of conductors 30 and 31, Fig. 5, mutually insulated by a tube 32, radially spaced and having coolant paths. Connection of the electrical supply from the insulated stationary bus bars 40 and 41 to conductors 31 and 30 respectively, is effected by two similar mutually insulated plates 65 and 66, shaped as in Fig. 6, embracing the arbor and insulated therefrom, secured to the frame 19. Each plate carries two sets of brush units 76 and 83, Fig. 4, the former arranged circularly around electrical contact tubes 73, the latter secured in staggered formation to fingers 64, and making contact with the bus bars. Rotary contact is thus effected between the inner rotatable conductors 30 and 31, and plates 65 and 66, and a sliding contact with the bus bars 41 and 40.
