Abstract

616,206. Hat-making machines. CASSE, M. Aug. 29, 1946, No. 26028. Convention date, March 29, 1945. [Class 63] A machine for stretching a hat body supported on a freely rotatable block 44, comprises inwardlyinclined, tapered, rotary rollers 4 on which the body rests, and stretching bars 14 arranged between the rollers and reciprocated vertically so as to have a long downward stroke in contact with the body. The rollers have deep ribs in the form of a longpitch thread so arranged that, as they rotate, the hat body is rotated and also is pulled downwardly, and the bars 14 have teeth. The rollers are rotated by pinions 5, a bevel gear 6, pinions 9, 10 and a pulley 12 with clutch member 11. The bars 14 are angularly adjustable on levers 15 which are pivoted at 19 to an annular slide 21, and each lever has an arm 22 engaging a channel 23 in a slide 24. The two slides are reciprocated by a crankshaft 27-30, driven by the pinion 10, in such manner that the bars rise in the open position, are then closed by the slide 24, next descend in contact with the hat body, and finally re-open, the cycle being repeated until a trip member 34 driven by a worm 32 on the crank shaft disengages the clutch.
