[Class 87 (ii).] In a dough-moulding machine comprising a series of rings or cups to which a balling motion is imparted through adjustable crank mechanism axial displacement of the crank shaft is used to effect both the adjustment of the throw of the crank and vertical displacement of the moulding cups. The dough pieces are carried on a conveyer 10 which is driven intermittently by a ratchet and pawl 12 from a cam 13. A crosshead 37 carrying the moulding cups 38 is supported by two crank shafts 18 which are driven by gearing 19 and are displaced vertically by levers 22 actuated by a cam 26. Each shaft 18 carries a crank disc 28 at its upper end which is connected thereto by a key 33 which permits relative axial movement. The crank arm 29 is carried by a pin 30 which is adapted to be rotated by a toothed quadrant which engages sloping teeth 34 on the shaft 18. Thus as the shaft 18 is moved axially the pin 30 is rotated and the distance of the main crank pin 36 from the axis of the shaft 18 is varied. Continued upward movement of the shaft 18 causes it to engage the crank disc 28 and raise the cups 38 clear of the dough pieces.
