616,111. Fastenings for boxes &c. KIASCHEK, G. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25736. [Class 44] In a fastening for the lid of a box, or other hinged closure, the body carrying the closure is provided with a portion of channel section having a slot therein, a slide member movable in the channel, and a latch element having a tongue extending through the slot and secured to the slide, and the lid or closure has a recess through which a bent-over portion of the latch element passes when the lid &c. is to be opened, while in the closed position the latch element is slid along the slot so that the bent-over portion thereof extends over the lid. As shown, the body of a powder compact has a flanged edge 1 of channel section in which moves a slide 2, and the channel has a slot 3 through which passes the latch member 4 secured to the slide 2. The upper part of the latch member 4 is semi-circular, and a corresponding recess 6 in the lid 5 allows the latter to be opened when the latch is brought opposite the recess. The lid may be spring loaded to open automatically. The channel and slot may be curved if desired.
