[Class 123(i)] A domestic pressure cooker comprises a lipless bowl-like vessel 1, Fig. 1, provided at its rim 3 with an exterior series of spaced radial lugs 3b, and a disc-like lid 4 having a reinforced rim 4a provided with a series of inwardly directed lugs 4c complementary to the lugs on the vessel 1. The complementary lugs are adapted to be intermeshed and engaged by a partial turn of the lid about the axis of the vessel, the vessel being sealed by steam pressure acting upon a gasket 5 mounted in 'the rim 4a of the lid 4 so as to press the gasket 5 upon the rim 3 of the vessel. The vessel 1 and the lid 4 have radial handle receiving bosses 1a, 4d, brought into alignment in securing the lid in position. A loaded pressure control valve may be fitted in the lid. A suitable form comprises a bored valve seating member 6 screwed into the lid 4, the inner end of the bore communicating with a plurality of lateral ducts 6a, the upper end of the bore constituting a seating for a valve member 7 loaded by a weight 8. The loading piece may be replaceable by load pieces of different weights or a fixed loading piece may have extra weights applied over it. A temperature operated fusible safety plug may also be fitted in the lid 4. To prevent any premature removal of the lid 4, the rim of the vessel may be provided with a spring retracted plunger 11, Fig. 7, located in a cavity 11a. The plunger 11, forced by steam pressure into a recess in the lid 4 locks the lid against rotation until the steam pressure has subsided sufficiently for the plunger 11 to be retracted by its spring. Alternatively, as a safety device the underside of the lugs. on the vessel have a step formed in them, or a separate stop pin is provided adjacent to the said lugs, such that should a premature attempt be made to release the lid, the initial turning of the lid allows the lid to be lifted by steam pressure until the lugs of the lid engage the said steps or stop pins of the vessel in order that steam may escape from the vessel before the lid is given a final releasing turn.
