Abstract
614,734. Sockets; making electrodes. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., and TUCKER, N. A. July 23, 1946, No. 21916. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] In a lathe &c. for trimming the operating face of a work-piece, e.g. an electrode, worksupporting means comprise a circular backing plate 7 for centrally mounting on a spindle and a second plate 10 adapted to carry work in several positions so that the face thereof lies perpendicular to the axis of rotation and approximately centred therewith, said second plate being rotatably and eccentrically mounted to allow the work to be displaced angularly and the face thereof accurately centred, by means of a clamping ring 11 engaging a flange on, and allowing rotation of, the eccentric plate and detachably secured to the backing plate. A holder 17 having a socket 18, which may be inclined to the axis, is secured by screws 21 to the eccentric plate 10 and mounts an electrode 20 so that a face 23 may be trimmed.
