Abstract

614,714. Bottling liquids. WILLIAMS, M. L. July 22, 1946, No. 21779. [Class 125 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVIII and XXVIII] A machine for filling tins and like receptacles with paint or other liquid comprises a cylinder, i, intermittently rotated about its axis such that a hole i' therein alternately registers with feed and delivery means, a plunger j adapted to charge the cylinder and to discharge the contents thereof into tins which are brought beneath the delivery means and are held there whilst being filled and are carried away after filling whilst fresh tins take their places. The cylinder i is rotatably mounted in a casing f beneath a hopper h with which it is connected by a slot g and the hole i<1>. When rotated through 180 degrees the cylinder communicates with the three delivery nozzles c, d, e. The cylinder is intermittently rotated from a shaft r through a geneva motion and a system of gear wheels. From the same shaft r, a conveyor belt b is continuously driven through pulleys t, u. The piston j is also reciprocated from the shaft r through a geneva motion, gear wheels, disc y, and links w, v. The geneva motions causing intermittent rotation of each train of gear wheels connected to the cylinder and plunger comprise a single wheel q having stops r', 6 at 180 degrees which engage respectively, radial slots within discs attached to the first wheel in each train. The tins are held beneath the filling nozzles by an arm 7 of a lever 8 which is constrained in this position by a spring 13. This lever is rocked through links from a cam 11 so that the filled tins are released immediately after filling, further tins being prevented from moving along until the cylinder i is recharged and then the lever 8 resumes its initial position. The quantity of liquid dispensed may be varied by altering the stroke of the plunger.
