599,773. Bottling. GIUSTI, T., GIUSTI, R. B., and GIUSTI & SON, Ltd., T. Oct. 11, 1945, No. 26558. [Class 125 (ii)] A machine for filling containers with cream, paste or other semi-fluid pasty or granular material comprises a horizontally arranged cylindrical housing adapted to receive material issuing from a hopper disposed thereabove a piston or plunger moving longitudinally in the housing to force the material through a discharge mouth at one end of the housing, means being provided for adjusting the length of the stroke of the piston. A hand-operated machine, Fig. 1, has a stand 1 above which is mounted a housing 2 in which the piston 18 moves. A hopper 3 is mounted above the housing 2 and has an opening which communicates therewith. The material is delivered to the containers through a detachable funnel 5a secured by a threaded ring 5 engaging threads 5b on the housing 2, a detachable spring-pressed valve being secured in the opening of the latter by bayonet catches. The piston 18 is connected by an arm 19 to an operating handle 20 which is pivoted at 21 at one end, and slides between guide bars 23, the extent of its stroke being limited by a pin 25 placed in one of a series of holes 24. In a power operated version, Fig. 3, a motor 26 drives the disc 33 through reduction gearing 27 and chain-wheel train 28, 29, 30 and chains 31. The disc 33 is connected by eccentric pin and slot mechanism to the piston rod 34, which is divided, and adjustable in overall length by a couping 36 having right and left handed threads. A cam 38 on the shaft 37 causes intermittent rotation of a ratchet wheel 46 through a pawl and a system of rods and levers 39, 41, 42. This may cause rotation of a table 47 carrying the containers in a series of clips 50, from which the bottles are removed after filling by a member 51, or it may cause stepwise movement of a conveyer belt.
