Abstract
614,679. Batteries. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. (Longaker, E. L.). July 19, 1946, No. 21684. [Class 53] The plates and separators of an accumulator are covered by a shield in the form of a comb to prevent sediment from forming a conductive path between the upper edges of adjacent plates. Each tooth 25 of the shield 24 rests on the upper edges of the two separators 13 on opposite sides of a negative plate 11, as shown in Fig. 3. The comb is provided with upstanding ribs 28, 29 which abut against the undersides of the plate straps 15, 18 to hold it in position as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively, the rib 29 may be formed at the end of the comb to abut against the underside of the accumulator lid. The part 26 of the comb may be provided with openings 27 to facilitate circulation of electrolyte and the escape of gas.
