Abstract

614,635. Locking bolts. VARNEY, Ltd., D., and POLLARD, A. F. C. Nov. 2, 1945, No. 29185. [Class 89 (i)] Locking means for screws, particularly those used in the mounting &c. of scientific instruments consist of an arm 1, sunk in a correspondingly profiled recess 8 in the mount 4 and tapped to form a continuation of the hole 3 receiving the screw 7 to be locked by tilting the arm by a set-screw 6. In modifications, rotation of the arm may be restrained by providing a hole or notch at the opposite end of the screw 6, for engaging a plain, tapered, or split-pin projecting from the mount, or two pins on the mount may engage on one each side of the arm. In another form the arm contacts a strap secured by screws to the mount or a ball in one part engages in a groove in the other. The bolt may be soldered in place or may be driven into a hole. In another form the arm is tilted for locking by being allowed to rotate and ride up on a laterally located wedge.
