[Class 64(ii)] A thermal or sound insulating sheet material comprises a plurality of compartments 3 filled with insulating material 4 such as kapok contained in separate envelopes of thin waterproof, flexible, non- fibrous, homogeneous sheet material, the envelopes being sealed by adhesive or by heat sealing. The compartments are either formed integral with a supporting sheet in corrugated or quilted form sealed at the edges, or the compartments are attached separately to one side of a supporting sheet. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the envelope is made from two sheets of synthetic resin such as polyvinyl chloride by sealing together round three edges 1 and along the division spaces 2, stuffing the compartments 3 so formed with kapok and then sealing the fourth side.
