Abstract
614,417. Frequency measurements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and EARP, C. W. Jan. 10, 1946, No. 917. [Class 37] Relates to the system of frequency measurement in which the unknown frequency and a standard frequency are each subjected to successive steps of frequency division, and the phases of corresponding steps of division are compared at the end of a known interval, and consists in defining the interval by one complete cycle of the frequency divider operating on the standard frequency. Standard oscillations from OSC, Fig. 1, are applied to frequency dividers D11 ... D14 over an electronic switch G3, and the unknown frequency from S, or a beat frequency of the unknown and standard frequency, is applied to frequency dividers D1 ... D4 over an electronic switch G2. Phase indicators P1 ... P4 interconnect the outputs of the frequency dividers. The first pulse from divider D14 is applied to G1 to close switch G2 and apply standard oscillations to frequency dividers D1 ... D4, thus stabilizing the phase differences attained by the end of the interval defined by the operation of G1. Specification 601,985 is referred to.
