613,910. Splitting, and removing hair from, skins. FOUSSE, H. P. P., and CASSE, M. Jan. 16, 1945, No. 1243. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1941. [Classes 31(i) and 76] In a machine for splitting hides and skins, and more particularly for removing the hairs from rabbit skins, comprising a band-saw 4 stretched on two wheels 2 and 3, Fig. 1, the skins are presented to the saw by two feed rollers 18 and 26, Fig. 3, urged towards one another, the roller 26 rotating at a slightly higher speed than the roller 18 so as to straighten the hairs about to be cut. After leaving the saw the skin passes between the roller 18 and the rotating roller 25. The rollers 25 and 26 are mounted in bearings pivoting about shafts 28 and 34, and are pressed against roller 18 by means of springs 27a and 35. The whole roller system is mounted so that it can be rotated about the shaft 15 by operation of handwheels 21 in order to adjust the position of the skin in a direction perpendicular to the saw. The saw may be moved in a horizontal direction relative to the rollers by means of a handwheel 40. A system of gearing driving the rollers is operated from the drive for the saw through a belt 9 and pulley 10. U.S.A. Specification 2,046,963 is referred to.
