[Class 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (a)] In a water-cooled high pressure metal vapour discharge tube having solid incandescent electrodes protruding from a quantity of vapourizable metal, fitted with a semi-cylindrical co-axial reflector by which light is reflected on the discharge space, the length of the reflector is less than the distance between the electrodes. Preferably the ratio of half the difference between the distance separating the electrodes and the length of the reflector to the distance between the reflector and the inside of the tube wall is at least 1 : 2. By these means the reflected light striking the metal surrounding the electrodes is reduced and variations in the operating voltage are avoided.
